Band Of The Week

August Life is the brainchild of Gert Nijboer and Bryan Ketelaars. With Gert's songwriting prowess and Bryan's expertise in crafting vocal melodies and lyrics, the duo embarked on a creative journey that culminated in the release of their debut album ”New Eternity”. The album was received very positively and was even compared to being a sister album of the impressive ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ by Queensrÿche.

Drawing inspiration from classic metal acts like Dio, Rainbow and Savatage, as well as more modern icons such as Dream Theater, Threshold, Shadow Gallery, Evergrey, Vanden Plas, Pagan's Mind, and even Pantera, August Life has forged a sound that seamlessly blends the best of various eras.

After a dream start as a live act, performances with bands like Tygers of Pan Tang and Praying Mantis and shows sceduled with bands like Threshold and Tyketto quickly followed, both domestically and internationally. However, the COVID pandemic and its restrictions put this momentum on hold.

The time spent in lockdown was used productively to write outstanding new songs. In 2021, the band launched the song ”The Broken Hourglass”, which was very well received worldwide.

Following this, the band further refined their craft with new material featured on their new album "Passage Of Time" produced by Markus Teske (Vanden Plas, The New Roses, UDO, Mob Rules, Dominici, Saga, Symphony X). The album was released on August 29th 2025.
